KARATE at the OLYMPICS?

On August 5, 2021, karate saw its dream of becoming an Olympic sport come true, making an excellent presentation for that Olympic program, bringing 8 new Olympic champions to Tokyo. As this year’s Games drew to a close, the World Karate Federation President, Antonio Espinós, expressed his hope that the sport would be included again in the line-up for Paris 2024. “We definitively showed the world that karate is a unique sport and we demonstrated the merits that we have acquired to be added to the Olympic program as a permanent sport,” he said. However, karate will not be part of the 2024 Olympics in Paris without any explanatory reason. World Karate Federation president Espinós accused Estanguet of talking "nonsense" when trying to explain the reasons behind karate's "exclusion" from the Paris 2024 program - a decision that the WKF head claims the organization never received an explanation for. And now the big question that all karateka ask themselves is will karate be in the 2028 olympic games? The great truth is that there is still a small chance that karate will participate in these olympic games although it is still out of the plans. WKF President Antonio Espinós commented, “after our exclusion from the Paris 2024 Games, we will continue fighting to earn our well-deserved place in the Olympic program.” So, all karateka are working hard for karate to be in the Olympic games again, so we need everyone to make noise so that we are noticed as an Olympic sport. The final list of 28 sports that will be part of the program of the Games in Los Angeles 2028, the IOC will confirm in February next year.
